PREAMBLE

One of the core values that ground and enliven St. Louis College of Education is learning for life. This value encourages members of the College community to pursue knowledge and truth throughout our lives in ways that improve our communities and us, and that strengthen our understanding of each other. The community therefore displays a strong commitment to education as a means of liberating people to live meaningful lives as well as earn a decent living. In view of this, the college believes that teaching is not only a job but is a way of life. It is a sublime task one can be ever entrusted with. Teachers educate generation of learners and in their hands lie the fate of any nation. It is against this background that the College imbues the value of life-long learning in the students during their training.  

St. Louis College of Education shall ensure that positive behaviours that support optimal learning are explicitly taught, clearly expected and affirmed in all learning contexts.  

  1. GOALS

The College aims at improving the qualifications of all academic staff so that by the year 2022, all the academic staff will have the requisite qualification to function effectively in any higher educational institution in the country. In addition, all the academic staff shall have the requisite skills and competencies in writing publications.

  1. SCOPE/APPLICATION

This policy shall apply to all the academic staff and senior staff A n the college..

  1. THE POLICY STATEMENT

The Staff Development and Research policy is to ensure that all senior staff A of St. Louis College of Education are given equal opportunities to benefit from the staff development fund and other scholarships available in the college. In addition, all tutors shall participate actively in the weekly tutor professional development sessions and prepare a weekly lesson outline proforma.

  • To qualify for funding, applicant must have served in the college for not less than three years.
  • Any staff A member who wishes to benefit from the staff development and research fund must apply to the staff development and research fund committee.
  • The applicant shall be bonded to serve the college at least three years after completion of the course.
  • All the courses of study that will be approved must be relevant to the college and consistent with the applicant’s previous qualification.
  • Applicants shall present their certificates upon completion of their program to the college.
  • Copies of thesis and dissertations of all beneficiaries shall be submitted to the college and deposited in the Library.

SUPPORTING PROCEDURES:

  • Any applicant who is unable to complete his/her program, shall refund the total cost with compound interest of the time.
  • Any applicant who completes the course of study but cannot serve the college for at least three years, shall be made to refund all the funds disbursed.
  • Any applicant who fails to submit certificates and thesis upon completion of course or program shall be arrange before the college’s disciplinary committee for appropriate sanctions.
